Getting started

You already have an account: someone created it for you and handed you a username and a temporary password. This is what you find when you sign in, and what's worth knowing about the interface first.

Signing in#

Fyal lives at www.fyal.es. On the sign-in screen you type your email or your username — either works — and your password.

From the second time on, in that same browser, the screen recognises you: your avatar and name appear and it only asks for the password. That's quick access. If someone else shares the computer, “Not me” brings back the full form.

If the password is wrong#

The form shakes and says so. After several attempts in a row Fyal makes you wait a while before trying again (“Too many attempts”). If you can't remember it, whoever administers your account can reset it: you'll get a temporary one you'll have to change on entry.

Lock on inactivity#

Leave Fyal open untouched for 10 minutes and it locks. Nothing is lost: the page you were on is still behind. Type your password to continue, or “Sign out” to end the session entirely.

The first time#

The password you sign in with the first time was set by whoever created the account. As soon as you're in, Fyal asks for two things before letting you through:

1. Choose your password. One only you know. Typed twice, at least 6 characters.
2. Your tax details. Your tax authority (common territory, Bizkaia, Álava, Gipuzkoa or Navarre) and the month and year you registered as self-employed. With that Fyal knows which instalment regime applies to you and from which quarter you're obliged. Both can be changed later in Settings → Tax.

The same happens if your password is ever reset: choose a new one before continuing.

The interface#

The app has three areas that never change:

• Sidebar, on the left: Overview, Invoices, Expenses, Projects, Clients and Resources. At the bottom, theme (light/dark), sign out and your name, which leads to Settings. Clicking the “Fyal” logo returns to the Overview.
• Page header: the title, the period selector (full year or a quarter) and the year selector. What you choose there filters everything below.
• Content: tables, cards and panels. Invoice and expense forms open in a panel from the right; settings, imports and notices in a centred window.

Period and year#

Almost everything in Fyal is viewed per tax year. The year selector shows the years you have set up; they're added and removed from Settings → Years or from the selector itself. The period selector splits the year into Q1–Q4; “Year” shows the whole thing.

How it moves#

Fyal follows a simple idea: motion is information, not decoration. What opens, enters; what closes, leaves faster than it came; and in lists and menus a single highlight slides to the element nearest the cursor instead of switching on and off cell by cell. It's easier to see where you're about to click.

Undo#

Deleting an invoice, an expense, a project or a client doesn't ask “are you sure?”: it does it and leaves a notice at the bottom with Undo for a few seconds. If you slipped, one click brings it back.

Right-click#

Almost everything has a context menu. On a table row: edit, duplicate, change status, delete. With several rows selected, the menu acts on all of them. Anywhere else: switch theme and reload.

Copy with one click#

In tables, clicking the text of a cell copies it to the clipboard — an invoice number, an amount, a tax ID — and confirms with “Copied”. Clicking the empty part of the cell selects the row instead.

On the phone#

The same app, rearranged: a tab bar at the bottom with the main sections and “More” for the rest (theme, settings, sign out). Tables become cards, the “+” button asks what you want to add, and panels rise from the bottom. Everything you can do on the computer you can do on the phone, except dragging files to import.
