Shortcuts & tips

Fyal is fine with a mouse, but there are a few gestures that, once learned, you never let go of.

Keyboard#

The single-letter shortcuts (N, E) only act when you're not typing in a field, and do nothing while a window is open. Esc always closes the most recent thing: first a dropdown or a calendar, then the panel or modal behind it. So dismissing a calendar doesn't cost you the whole form.

In these docs, additionally: ⌘K or / open search.

Tables#

  • Select: click a row. /Ctrl + click adds or removes; + click selects from the last one to that one.
  • Act on several: with several selected, right-click one of them. Mark all as paid or pending, or delete them at once.
  • Copy a value: click the cell's text. An amount, an invoice number, a tax ID; “Copied” appears. In the cell's empty area a click selects, not copies.
  • Change a status: click the row's “Paid / Pending” pill, without opening anything. Taxes are marked with their dot.
  • Undo: on delete, the notice at the bottom has “Undo” for a few seconds.
  • Clear the search: the cross in the search box.

Forms#

  • Duplicate a recurring invoice or expense instead of filling it from scratch: right-click → Duplicate, and change the date and number.
  • Create the client from the invoice: type the name in the picker and “+ Create”.
  • Exchange rate: leave AUTO on; only switch it off if your bank applied a different one.
  • Date outside the year: if the form complains about the date, it's because the year selected at the top is a different one. Change it first.

Importing#

  • Drag straight onto the page of Invoices or Expenses: no need to open “Import” first.
  • Phone photos: a photographed receipt (JPG, HEIC) works as well as a PDF.
  • Duplicates: don't worry about importing twice; whatever already exists is flagged and not saved.

Projects#

  • Dragging moves cards between columns and reorders them; tasks inside the project page too.
  • Enter saves in any field of the page: name, dates, budget, task, hours.
  • Task priority: click its dot.

General#

  • Right-click anywhere: switch theme and reload.
  • The logo goes to the Overview; your name, to Settings.
  • Lock: after 10 minutes without activity; your password opens it where you were.
  • Updates: Fyal updates itself. If there's a new version when you come back to the tab, it reloads — never with a form half filled.
